Title: Magic Bite (Supernatural Bounty Hunter Series Book 1) Pdf
Evie Black and her demon imp partner, Cass, are two of the most fearsome supernatural bounty hunters on the West Coast. But when Evie’s beloved grandmother dies, her world shatters.

After finding the bottom of a bottle of tequila, Evie breaks the one rule she knows better than to ignore: Never hook up with a werewolf.

Especially when he’s the local alpha who, oh by the way, happens to be her gran’s sworn enemy.

Yeah, complicated doesn’t even begin to cover what happens next.

***This is a full length adult urban fantasy novel. Please be advised there is adult sexual content and language. You know how alpha werewolves get =)

2.5 Stars - Only Half a Book This is a pretty fun story, lots of funny moment and plenty of "adult" oriented entertainment (sex, cussing, drinking, etc). The writing isn't half bad, kept me interested and I wanted to know what would happen next. So, why only 2.5 stars (amazon only allows full stars)? Because this is sold as a book with a full story, and it is NOT.There are no resolutions to any of the questions asked, there is no defeat of the big bad, no resolution on the HEA, nothing. The story even ends on a cliff hanger. Due to this I do Not recommend reading this book until the second book is available.Final Thoughts: The eventual story might be great, but we wont know until it's complete. Not recommended until then.Van Wilder meets Supernatural Van Wilder meets Supernatural! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I loved it all. There’s humor (Cass and Molly take the cake), all kinds of supernaturals, a kick butt storyline, and an exceedingly hot yet gentle Alpha. I raced through reading it and really enjoyed how it managed to both make me laugh and keep me caught up in the tension. The writing was well done and held a casual tone that left me feeling like I was there and a part of their group. I loved the ending and can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book!Best book of 2018 From the minute I opened this book, I couldn’t put it down. It was the best book I have read this year that made me laugh, and fall in love with a cast of amazing characters. From the main character who’s a wicked bounty hunter, to a sinfully hot werewolf that I would love to have jumping into my bed. Let’s just say, these authors did it well. If anything they took my reading this year out with a bang!I’m so excited to pick up the second book in this series, and I can’t wait to immerse myself in this world some more. It’s a world that every PNR reader should want to be immersed in, and what we go searching for when we read. I’m always looking for my next great read, and I found it in this book. You won’t be disappointed if you pick this book up, you’re family just won’t be able to find you because you’ll disappear somewhere to read in peace.

Title: Discipline & Punish Pdf The Birth of the Prison
Published Date: 1995

Text: English (translation) Original Language: French Michel Foucault was born in Poitiers, France, in 1926. He lecturerd in universities throughout the world; served as director at the Institut Francais in Hamburg, Germany and at the Institut de Philosophi at the Faculte des Lettres in the University of Clermont-Ferrand, France; and wrote frequently for French newspapers and reviews. At the time of his death in 1984, he held a chair at France's most prestigious institutions, the College de France.

In this brilliant work, the most influential philosopher since Sartre suggests that such vaunted reforms as the abolition of torture and the emergence of the modern penitentiary have merely shifted the focus of punishment from the prisoner's body to his soul.

The Birth Of Modern Times "Barely two hundred and fifty years ago a man condemned of attempting to assassinate the King of France was drawn and quartered in a grisly spectacle that suggested an unmediated duel between the violence of the criminal and the violence of the state" (Book Jacket). When compared to the modern tactics of contemporary prison, we can begin to see that we have not merely experienced an evolution, but a fundamental restructuring of our system. What Foucault is able to accomplish in the space of 300 pages is remarkable. We journey from the Medieval power struggles to the knowledge of modern times; a knowledge that has compelled us to abandon this confrontation between offender and offended. What used to generate latent feelings of power and resoluteness in the mass has undergone a definite process of banalization. In other words, the violent forces meeting in an ultimate showdown of wills has been removed in favor of a shameful and boring "isolationism" for convicts. We follow the different streams of thought and custom, traversing the classical age until we find that "power" ultimately culminated into a new principle of societal order: surveillance. Or as utilitarian reformer Bentham terms it, the "panopticon" (That which sees all). With no words wasted, the style can be rough going, especially as terminology is introduced in the early chapters. However, the last 70 or so pages roar with ferocity through modern ideas and rationalizations of discipline and imprisonment. It is easy to understand how Foucault was hated by conservative rationalists and system apologists. The approach taken is essentially anarchistic, in the sense that Foucault offers no alternative system and that he does not criticize certain trajectories in favor of others. He is fundamentally opposed to the current civilization (and this extends even beyond his beginnings in the pre-classical systems) Despite this, strong willed readers will appreciate the complete absence of dogma or moralizing rhetoric. In this way, the work is beyond criticism, except perhaps that this kind of knowledge tends to paralyze readers from action.Ultimately, a close read will provide an unimaginable amount of value. We are shown the themes of modernity as they existed in their nascent stages, without wading through the endless legal and political details. Foucault is explicit that there are of course many other institutions that were ultimately governed by the same power/knowledge including hospitals and schools. I would encourage any active citizen to read this book as they make their way through their journey.Foucault is actually entertaining ... Having previously delved into other 20th century French “philosophes” such as Lacan and Derrida, and finding them pretentious and unreadable, I was for a long time reluctant to make the acquaintance of Foucault. While I continue to harbor doubts about the historical accuracy of this work, it is nonetheless a remarkable tour-de-force of the evolving role of punishment in society since the times of the French ancien rĂ©gime. Its analysis of the relationship between schools, factories, and prisons remains remarkably relevant to an understanding of the manner in which human beings are surveilled, disciplined, and punished in modern western societies. It brings a necessary dose of realism to the misleading discourse on “freedom” and “values” that dominates public debate. While it is at times hard to take Foucault “literally”, his good humor and energy make this work not only enlightening but entertaining.Illuminating The author describes in great detail the many steps that have been taken over many centuries by those in power to manipulate, control, terrify, quantify, observe, categorize and cajole humanity into manageable pigeonhole dwelling "units". It makes you want to immediately read Thoreau.

The Edge of Anarchy Pdf

ISBN: B07CWRL21R
Title: The Edge of Anarchy Pdf The Railroad Barons, the Gilded Age, and the Greatest Labor Uprising in America

"Timely and urgent...The core of The Edge of Anarchy is a thrilling description of the boycott of Pullman cars and equipment by Eugene Debs’s fledgling American Railway Union..." —The New York Times

"During the summer of 1894, the stubborn and irascible Pullman became a central player in what the New York Times called “the greatest battle between labor and capital [ever] inaugurated in the United States.” Jack Kelly tells the fascinating tale of that terrible struggle." —The Wall Street Journal

"Pay attention, because The Edge of Anarchy not only captures the flickering Kinetoscopic spirit of one of the great Labor-Capital showdowns in American history, it helps focus today’s great debates over the power of economic concentration and the rights and futures of American workers." —Brian Alexander, author of Glass House

"In gripping detail, The Edge of Anarchy reminds us of what a pivotal figure Eugene V. Debs was in the history of American labor... a tale of courage and the steadfast pursuit of principles at great personal risk." —Tom Clavin, New York Times bestselling author of Dodge City

The dramatic story of the explosive 1894 clash of industry, labor, and government that shook the nation and marked a turning point for America.

The Edge of Anarchy by Jack Kelly offers a vivid account of the greatest uprising of working people in American history. At the pinnacle of the Gilded Age, a boycott of Pullman sleeping cars by hundreds of thousands of railroad employees brought commerce to a standstill across much of the country. Famine threatened, riots broke out along the rail lines. Soon the U.S. Army was on the march and gunfire rang from the streets of major cities.

This epochal tale offers fascinating portraits of two iconic characters of the age. George Pullman, who amassed a fortune by making train travel a pleasure, thought the model town that he built for his workers would erase urban squalor. Eugene Debs, founder of the nation’s first industrial union, was determined to wrench power away from the reigning plutocrats. The clash between the two men’s conflicting ideals pushed the country to what the U.S. Attorney General called “the ragged edge of anarchy.”

Many of the themes of The Edge of Anarchy could be taken from today’s headlines—upheaval in America’s industrial heartland, wage stagnation, breakneck technological change, and festering conflict over race, immigration, and inequality. With the country now in a New Gilded Age, this look back at the violent conflict of an earlier era offers illuminating perspectives along with a breathtaking story of a nation on the edge.

Wonderful nonfiction for fans of Candice Millard or Erik Larson I’m not a big reader of nonfiction, but I love history and enjoy learning about an episode in history of which I was previously unaware. So, I was drawn to The Edge of Anarchy, which details the largest uprising of US workers. The 1890s were the height of the Gilded Age and like today, one of those periods when there was a large gulf between the haves and the have nots. In fact, the similarities between the two time periods is one of the things that drew me to the book. In 1893, the US economy suffered a crash and a following recession. Railroad manual job wages were cut to starvation levels. The story concentrates on Eugene Debs, who had the idea of creating an industrial union for all members involved in the railroads, not individual unions for each specific job. On the opposite side was George Pullman. Pullman pulled himself up by his bootstraps, to use an old phrase. A creative business genius, he not only had new ideas for railroad cars, but also designed a town for his employees. But he was all about making money and didn’t care how many of his workers starved so long as is businesses were profitable. “Both Debs and Pullman were fighting for deeply held principles: community versus self-interest, cooperation versus competition, equality versus liberty. On this anniversary of independence, each felt that he was a patriot upholding the best of the American tradition.”The depression also led to the creation of civilian armies, bands of the unemployed marching on DC. Their leaders actually had some ideas that FDR would later employ to help during the Great Depression. But Grover Cleveland was no FDR.The book is well written and well researched. It moves at a brisk pace and kept my interest. I loved how Kelly lined all the dominoes up so we could watch them fall. The best historical nonfiction books make you feel part of the time and place. Kelly does just that.I highly recommend this book to lovers of history. Fans of Candice Millard or Erik Larson will enjoy this.My thanks to netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advance copy of this book.

Title: Engineering Economic Analysis Pdf
Author: Donald G. Newnan
Published Date: 2017-01-20

"The new appendix on personal finance and taxes is helpful. This is a topic that really isn't covered in other textbooks, but students desperately need to know about it." --Nina D. Miville, University of Miami Donald G. Newnan is Professor Emeritus of Industrial and Systems Engineering at San Jose State University.Ted G. Eschenbach is a consultant and Professor Emeritus of Engineering Management at the University of Alaska Anchorage.Jerome P. Lavelle is Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University.

The thirteenth edition of the market-leading Engineering Economic Analysis offers comprehensive coverage of financial and economic decision making for engineers, with an emphasis on problem solving, life-cycle costs, and the time value of money. The authors' clear, accessible writing, emphasis on practical applications, and relevant contemporary examples have made this text a perennial bestseller. With its logical organization and extensive ancillary package, Engineering Economic Analysis is widely regarded as a highly effective tool for teaching and learning.

An Excellent Textbook As a professor who teaches Engineering Economics, I give my highest praise to the Newnan textbook. I have used various editions of this book in my graduate classes for 20 years. It is clearly written and provides excellent examples and real-world problems that truly attract and keep student attention. It is not calculus-based, and this is a distinct advantage for students not well-grounded in calculus. The rental program offered by Amazon is a terrific deal. You can typically rent a text for $25 for the semester, then return it in good condition once the semester is over. I teach at a public university where many students are financially challenged. Renting a text is a marvelous solution for the cost conscious. It doesn't get better than that!To test the rental process, I ordered a rental of this text and it came in timely. No issues with its return at the end of the semester either.Cheap and reliable The cost of the paperback Indian version is perfect and should be a model for all text books. I have a difficult time understanding the examples but the text and explanations are helpful and clear. The paperback is in black and white but personally that doesn't affect anything.Sightly damaged The book is in slightly worse shape then I'd like. One page is almost completely ripped out of the book. There might be more but I haven't made it that far in the book yet.

Title: You Can Do Anything Pdf The Surprising Power of a "Useless" Liberal Arts Education
Author: George Anders
Published Date: 2019-01-08
Page: 352

Praise for You Can Do Anything"Utterly fascinating and massively important. George Anders peers into his signature crystal ball, and paints a portrait of the future of work that's as compelling as it is provocative."―Adam Grant, Wharton professor and New York Times bestselling author of Give and Take and Originals"Anders' latest book is a must-read for liberal arts students and grads. Packed with relatable stories and role models, it not only inspires you with stories about what liberal arts grads have done with their educations, but also gives you a clear map to find your own path in the world."―Laszlo Bock, author of Work Rules!, former SVP of People Operations at Google, and CEO of Humu, Inc."Anders shows us precisely why majors like Philosophy, History, and Anthropology teach the skills employers can't outsource to robots and software... students should feel not only reassurance or permission but an actual obligation to go there, for their own sake, and for the sake of us all.'"―Julia Lythcott-Haims, author of How to Raise an Adult and former Dean of Freshmen at Stanford University"I could have used this book several times in my life. When I graduated from Northwestern with a degree in linguistics... and even today, when I'm the parent of high school junior intent on studying poetry and modern dance in college. You Can Do Anything will inspire a new generation to greater heights, while delivering a much-needed wake-up call to campus leaders and employers."―Daniel H. Pink, New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Drive and A Whole New Mind"The career stories of liberal arts graduates provide the best argument for the value of their education. George Anders, in his thoughtful new book You Can Do Anything, tells these stories in a compelling manner, weaving the threads of their education into the tapestry of their lives, demonstrating over and over why employers should seek out these unique thinkers. An interesting read and valuable for any liberal arts graduate or recruiter!"―Dr. Katharine Brooks, author of You Majored in What? and Executive Director of the Vanderbilt University Career Center"As a parent about to send her second child off to college--this one has a theater major--George Anders' book was not just a good show topic, but a balm to my soul."―Krys Boyd, host of KERA's "Think""George Anders has provided a compelling and decisive answer to the recurring question, 'What is the value proposition of a liberal arts education?' Students should have this book in their backpack or on their iPads. So should their parents, teachers, and our policy-makers."―Frederick M. Lawrence, CEO of Phi Beta Kappa Society"At the present moment... it is only liberal arts majors who have to wonder whether all of the articles and books promoting the marketability of their chosen discipline should make them more or less uneasy about the future. Two additions to this growing field have appeared just in time to try to sooth the post-graduation panic.. [including] You Can Do Anything.... [Anders] suppl[ies] useful talking points in support of the financial viability of studying the liberal arts."―Timothy Aubry, New York Times Book Review"Useful guidance for newly minted job hunters"―Kirkus"Give this to anyone who is questioning the value of a classical education in today's fast-paced world."―Booklist George Anders is a contributing writer at Forbes, exploring issues related to careers, education and innovation. He is the author of five books, including Merchants of Debt, Health Against Wealth, the New York Times bestseller Perfect Enough, and The Rare Find. Earlier in his career, George served as a staff writer for The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company magazine and Bloomberg View. In 1997, he shared in a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting. He and his wife live in northern California. Their two sons are starting their own college adventures.

In a tech-dominated world, the most needed degrees are the most surprising: the liberal arts

Did you take the right classes in college? Will your major help you get the right job offers? For more than a decade, the national spotlight has focused on science and engineering as the only reliable choice for finding a successful post-grad career. Our destinies have been reduced to a caricature: learn to write computer code or end up behind a counter, pouring coffee. Quietly, though, a different path to success has been taking shape. In YOU CAN DO ANYTHING, George Anders explains the remarkable power of a liberal arts education - and the ways it can open the door to thousands of cutting-edge jobs every week.

The key insight: curiosity, creativity, and empathy aren't unruly traits that must be reined in. You can be yourself, as an English major, and thrive in sales. You can segue from anthropology into the booming new field of user research; from classics into management consulting, and from philosophy into high-stakes investing. At any stage of your career, you can bring a humanist's grace to our rapidly evolving high-tech future. And if you know how to attack the job market, your opportunities will be vast.

In this book, you will learn why resume-writing is fading in importance and why "telling your story" is taking its place. You will learn how to create jobs that don't exist yet, and to translate your campus achievements into a new style of expression that will make employers' eyes light up. You will discover why people who start in eccentric first jobs - and then make their own luck - so often race ahead of peers whose post-college hunt focuses only on security and starting pay. You will be ready for anything.

Get great career advice whether you are in the liberal arts, sciences, or engineering This is a fascinating book that shatters the many misconceptions and unfortunate stereotypes associated with a liberal arts degree--namely that graduating with such a degree is nice but closely tied to unemployment. Instead, the author provides a large number of "case studies" that describe how talented individuals with liberal arts degrees not only obtain jobs, they develop wonderful careers in highly competitive domains such as Silicon Valley start-ups. Anders does not "sugar coat" his description of what it takes to get to that "dream job." He appropriately describes both the setbacks and victories these liberal arts grads lived through to develop satisfying careers. The stories are fun to read as well as being instructive and inspiring. I think that many readers, beyond those contemplating or finishing a liberal arts degree, will enjoy this book. In fact, those in science and engineering would absorb a lot of great career advice that would apply to their own efforts to advance a career. In addition, teachers, guidance counselors, and professors (especially in the liberal arts!) would be well served to read this book to broaden their own thinking as to what is possible with a so-called, "useless" liberal arts education.Just like the title of his newest book Just like the title of his newest book, George Anders can write anything -- and do it in a way to engage readers and make us think. This book validated my own views; there's so much pressure out there that our children freak out when they don't know what to do with the rest of their lives by middle school. Thank you, George, for giving us all permission to relax and be okay when our children go off to college without a plan. They don't come out of the womb with instructions. They need to follow their own paths, and they can do amazing things with those history and sociology degrees. I am thinking about getting copies of this book for graduation gifts. The perfect education and career guide for teenagers, college undergrads and their nervous parents This book is must reading for any parent anxious about college bills, high school student worrying about career options or undergrad terrified of taking the wrong path through college. The message for all of them: Relax. Take a year or two or three to explore whatever excites you. The conventional wisdom is that you must immediately lock yourself into STEM -- science, technology, engineering and math. And those are fine choices if they appeal to you. But so are things like literature, history, philosophy, sociology or anthropology. As George Anders demonstrates, these supposed dead ends can still lead to great futures, and not just in academia. “The human touch has never been more essential in the workplace than it is today," he writes, and that is a touch that comes from exploring what makes people tick, not from a purely technical education. “You don’t need to apologize for the supposedly impractical classes you took in college or the so-called soft skills you have acquired," he writes. "The job market is quietly creating thousands of openings a week for people who can bring a humanist’s grace to our rapidly evolving high-tech future.” The idea is to learn how to think critically, communicate, work in teams and nurture an explorer's zeal for making sense of new technological and cultural worlds. A humanities degree, combined with technical knowledge gathered as needed, may put you ahead of those who concentrate only on job-specific skills. As Anders makes clear, employers need generalists who know “a little bit about tech—and a lot about human nature.” Four years of college may or may not yield a well-paid job. But if you can emerge from those four years with curiosity, creativity and empathy, you're probably on the right track for the long term.
