For courses in Visual Basic Programming

In Starting Out with Visual Basic, Tony Gaddis and Kip Irvine take a step-by-step approach, helping students understand the logic behind developing quality programs while introducing the Visual Basic language. Revised and fully updated throughout for Visual Basic 2015, the Seventh Edition is written in clear, easy-to-understand language, covering all the necessary introductory programming topics. Concise, practical, and real-world example programs not only help students learn to use the various controls, constructs, and features of Visual Basic, but also why and when to use them.

The text is designed for students who have no prior programming background, but experienced students will also benefit from its depth of detail and the chapters covering databases, Web applications, and other advanced topics. Each chapter covers a major set of programming topics, introduces controls and GUI elements, and builds knowledge as the student progresses through the book.

Also Available with MyProgrammingLab.

MyProgrammingLab is an online learning system designed to engage students and improve results. MyProgrammingLab consists of a set of programming exercises correlated to the programming concepts in this book and improves the programming competence of beginning students who often struggle with the basic concepts of programming languages. For students, the system automatically detects errors in the logic and syntax of their code submissions and offers targeted hints that enable students to figure out what went wrong. For instructors, a comprehensive gradebook tracks correct and incorrect answers and stores the code inputted by students for review.

Expensive Good info too expensiveExcellent book, looks like new! Although it is said that it was used, it look more like new! Even the code was not used (which I did not even used it too, because the programs for the tutorials can be downloaded on Pearson website). Besides, the the book is excellent for beginners, it gave you a basic inside in Visual Basic and with the tutorials and programming challenges it helps you practice and reinforce (or strengthened) what you have learned in each chapter.1) Will it be easy enough to learn the lessons in the book on my own if not taking a class? 2) I just rented the book, and I have some questions. (I can only ask one question on the question section.)It seems to be geared for ONLY students who are taking VBA classes. Is that so? I'm not a student. To register on some of the sites listed in the book, you need access codes. And for the access codes, you need information like class numbers and so forth.I'm aware the access to sites like MyProgrammingLab cost extra ($43.00). That is okay if I can do the lessons without taking a class. Is this feature available for non-students?Finally, the book recommends using Visual Studio Community 2015. Downloading that from VisualStudio.com was a confusing process. I'm still not certain if I did it correctly. The steps needs to be more clearly defined. Also, should we be downloading Visual Studio Community 2017, given that is a newer version? The rental itself looks brand new. However, I can't say if the material is worthwhile since I am a beginner. The description about the book could be much better.

Book was not bonded together The pages were not attached to binding when renting the book should be able to transport from one place to another without falling apartOkay book I got the kindle version of this book mainly because I was required to. Physics 152 is one of my required courses in college and this was the required text that we need to read for our weekly quizzes. The nice thing is that you can use Ctrl+F to find whatever you need so it's really useful if your weekly quiz is online, like mine. The kindle version is also a lot cheaper than the actual book and you don't have to lug it around so it's nice. You can also download it on any device that has kindle so that's also useful. The actual textbook itself is okay, but I don't have anything to reference it against so I wouldn't really know. I like the book because it explains things in a way that you can understand it, but I didn't give it 5 starts because I don't love it. Yeah, it's a textbook. I don't know if it's the best one out there but it's better than the ones I was forced to use in high school.Okay Not the best but also isnt the worst

Title: Seduction Pdf Sex, Lies, and Stardom in Howard Hughes's Hollywood

In this riveting popular history, the creator of You Must Remember This probes the inner workings of Hollywood's glamorous Golden Age through the stories of some of the dozens of actresses pursued by Howard Hughes, to reveal how the millionaire mogul's obsessions with sex, power, and publicity trapped, abused, or benefited women who dreamt of screen stardom.

In recent months, the media has reported on scores of entertainment figures who used their power and money in Hollywood to sexually harass and coerce some of the most talented women in cinema and television. But as Karina Longworth reminds us, long before the Harvey Weinsteins, there was Howard Hughes - the Texas millionaire, pilot, and filmmaker whose reputation as a cinematic provocateur was matched only by that as a prolific womanizer.

His supposed conquests between his first divorce in the late 1920s and his marriage to actress Jean Peters in 1957 included many of Hollywood's most famous actresses, among them Billie Dove, Katharine Hepburn, Ava Gardner, and Lana Turner. From promoting bombshells like Jean Harlow and Jane Russell to his contentious battles with the censors, Hughes - perhaps more than any other filmmaker of his era - commoditized male desire as he objectified and sexualized women.

Yet there were also numerous women pulled into Hughes' grasp who never made it to the screen, sometimes virtually imprisoned by an increasingly paranoid and disturbed Hughes, who retained multitudes of private investigators, security personnel, and informers to make certain these actresses would not escape his clutches.

Vivid, perceptive, timely, and ridiculously entertaining, Seduction is a landmark work that examines women, sex, and male power in Hollywood during its Golden Age - a legacy that endures nearly a century later.

Casting Couch Film historian Karina Longworth could have written a terrific book. Unfortunately she fails with “Seduction” on the life of Howard Hughes and the many women he had relationships with in Hollywood. I think she is a frustrated neo-Marxian Feminist academic (I repeat myself) in that she uses such jargon as heteronormative, commodification and patriarchy. Hughes’ directed three great movies “Hells Angels,” which introduced the world to Jean Harlow, “Scarface” and “The Outlaw” where Jane Russell showed off her physical attributes.Longworth recounts Hughes’ affairs with Katherine Hepburn, Ava Gardner, Bette Davis and Ginger Rogers among the many. Although Hughes was certainly in a position of power, all of these relationships were consensual. Hughes also had a retinue of people on his payroll who were responsible for scouting “talent” for him. He certainly was an insatiable cad, but he also was a romantic. For example when he was courting Katherine Hepburn he landed his biplane on golf course where she was practicing on. Even the very wealthy and prominent Katherine Hepburn could not resist such an entreaty. In fact Hepburn stood up to him like none of the others. Perhaps it came from her strong ego reinforced by her patrician background.Longworth discusses the movies made by Hughes’ women and tries to fine deep social significance in them. To me most of those movies were entertainment and were not designed to enforce the mores of the day on an unsuspecting public. If Longworth lightened up a bit, she could have written a much better book.Boring I'm an old-movie buff, and I didn't read anything in this that I didn't already know about. Not that interested in H.Hughes- which is 99 percent of the book. Didn't even finish it.Great gift for the film lover (like me), so I bought myself it Longworth is a delightful storyteller, as I learned being a faithful listener to her podcast/streaming "You Must Remember This." And she does the same on paper in this book. For those who bored their high school friends, or opened new doors to them to watch (before recording to watch later), I have set alarms to wake for the late late show often. Now it is so much easier. But there is a reason that the time covered by this book is considered classic. The music of people like Franz Waxman. The performances by Hepburn and Cary Grant (especially HOLIDAY and the one where he almost played himself as a Cockney.)So read it and get the films you don't know, and watch. Many are classics still.

When You Are Engulfed in Flames Download

ISBN: B001AWVRYK
Title: When You Are Engulfed in Flames Pdf
Once again, David Sedaris brings together a collection of essays so uproariously funny and profoundly moving that his legions of fans will fall for him all over again.

He tests the limits of love when Hugh lances a boil from his backside, and pushes the boundaries of laziness when, finding the water shut off in his house in Normandy, he looks to the water in a vase of fresh cut flowers to fill the coffee machine.

From armoring the windows with LP covers to protect the house from neurotic songbirds, to the awkwardness of having a lozenge fall from your mouth into the lap of a sleeping fellow passenger on a plane, David Sedaris uses life's most bizarre moments to reach new heights in understanding love and fear, family and strangers.

Culminating in a brilliantly funny account of his venture to Tokyo in order to quit smoking, David Sedaris' sixth essay collection has been avidly anticipated.

Great for people who get sad this time of year As someone who gets depressed this time of year, and I know I'm not alone in this - this is my antidepressant! How can I be sad at all the signs of Christmas while I'm laughing my butt off with David Sedaris as an elf with me? Best to listen to it read by Sedaris himself, (he reads his work SO well!) but I have heard it so many times that when I read it I can almost hear him speaking in my head. I used to listen to it on the car between Thanksgiving and New Year's, and it really helped. Buy it for the people you know who get sad or just don't like this time of year!!! I do have a complaint with Amazon though - my copy, shipped along with another book, arrived bent! I'll try weighing it down with a stack of heavy books to weigh it down and hopefully straighten it out, but they should have shipped it differently - maybe between 2 sheets of heavy cardboard or something. But I highly recommend the book - one of the funniest I've ever read!!!!Sedaris Strikes Again I don't share much of a background with David Sedaris, I'm not from a "middle class" family, I have no college education (IVY LEAGUE even, c'mon), no one in my family has had anything to do with the arts, I'm an only freakin' child, I'm born bred and have always lived in the North West, I don't even have a passport let alone the means to live in any country I please... The list could continue and for some readers things like this make Sedaris' writing out of reach, even insulting. The thing is though we seem to have absolutely nothing in common we do have one thing, tiny as it may be, we the commanality of being human and living during this particular era. That is what connects me to him and his writing, his humble humanity. He knows he isn't a beauty queen, he consistently blunders through life making mistakes, playing the fool even and yet he has this amazing ability to WRITE about it, to share it with thw world and make fun of himself OUT LOUD to millions of readers. I love him for that, I love him for the fact academia hasn't sapped the humanity out of him and made him feel blunder proof or at least made him a blunder snob, hiding behind eight letter words that no one knows the true meaning of, ducking behind an Ivy league education.I picked this particular book up because my best friend is in the hospital, has been, will be, for a while. I have learned that he CANNOT handle being alone so I sit there, hour upon hour and try to read him to sleep. Sedaris' short stories and essays are perfect hospital food right? The problem is reading them aloud for the first time is hard because he makes laugh out loud (and not many do)so in the quiet hospital corridors one room is bellowing with laughter, from me, from my sick friend who really shouldn't be laughing right now, it hurts him, but he won't let me stop. A nurse cruises in inevitably when I am reading something that out of context seems dirty, it becomes even funnier. My context of reading this particular Sedaris book aside it is really a very funny, charming piece of literature that connects with the reader on many levels. The parts that others seem to be offended or put off by, I say read them with zeal, be happy that someone out there is making enough money off being a boob, off proudly being a boob to travel to Japan and France and across the U.S. and is taking the time (for money maybe but whatever) to share his experiences as a pretty much average Joe with us. Be happy to read from someone who relishes in the oddities, who isn't always tring to make you sympathetic and tearful. It really is a rare quality. You will find that most contemporary memoir(ish) literature relies on human empathy and sad, sad, sad, SAD parts of life. It's nice to take a break and read from someone who can tell you abot his mother dying of lung cancer in one paragraph and have you giggling in the next.Comedy or Tragedy, life is what you make of it. Trust me I have my own fair share of the comedically tragic, but when my friends can laugh at the crazy things I say and do when I am hallucinating because Lupus is attacking my brain I am way better than when they are crying over it.David Sedaris has the ability to make you laugh over things that put another way might make you cry. AND he has inspired me to REALLY quit smoking, I am done with cigarettes.Unique voice I like David Sedaris. His off-beat humor matches up with what I think is funny. I don't like it so much when he ventures into fiction, although I have to admit his Six to Eight Black Men and The Cow and the Turkey were spot on. The Monster Mash just didn't click with me, but the SantaLand Diaries was worth the price of the book.Sedaris is meant to be heard, and I can hear his voice reading these short stories as I read them. His unique speaking voice and writing voice are unmistakable. Nobody sound just like David Sedaris. Funny and poignant, both voices combine into a reading experience like none other.

The Plant Paradox Quick and Easy Free Pdf

ISBN: B07GDM7K2X
Title: The Plant Paradox Quick and Easy Pdf The 30-Day Plan to Lose Weight, Feel Great, and Live Lectin-Free

From bestselling author Dr. Steven Gundry, a quick and easy guide to The Plant Paradox program that gives readers the tools to enjoy the benefits of lectin-free eating in just 30 days.

In Dr. Steven Gundry’s breakout bestseller The Plant Paradox, readers learned the surprising truth about foods that have long been regarded as healthy. Lectins—a type of protein found in fruits, vegetables, legumes, dairy, and grains—wreak havoc on the gut, creating systemic inflammation and laying the groundwork for disease and weight gain. Avoiding lectins offers incredible health benefits but requires a significant lifestyle change—one that, for many people, can feel overwhelming.

Now, in The Plant Paradox Quick and Easy, Dr. Gundry makes it simpler than ever to go lectin free. His 30-day challenge offers incentives, support, and results along with a toolkit for success. With grocery lists, meal plans, time-saving cooking strategies, all-new recipes, and guidance for families and those following specialized diets (including ketogenic and vegan), The Plant Paradox Quick and Easy is the all-in-one resource Plant Paradox fans and newcomers alike need to jumpstart results reap the health benefits of living lectin-free.

I've been scammed I saw an introduction to this diet in a magazine, it sounded promising, so I pre-ordered the book with great anticipation. The diet is extremely restrictive, for example a small salad for breakfast , or you can just skip breakfast. It also promotes eating a lot of avocados, which have their own toxins if you research it. You can starve yourself and lose weight without subjecting yourself to the indignity of paying this crackpot. One look at the author, and I should have realized it was a scam- he does not appear at all healthy with a ruddy bloated looking face.Love it! More concise and easier to manage than the original book. It's life changing!A program that can help us restore good health. Why not give it a try? I finished reading the book 2 days ago and, because I sincerely acknowledge its valuable content, I'd like to share some thoughts before you make any commitment.I’ll divide this review in 3 parts. First, I'll write thoughts about to whom I’d recommend reading it. Then, I’ll share a brief summary from each chapter. Last, I’ll express personal thoughts and strategies to comply with the program.RECOMMENDATIONIf you haven’t had the opportunity to read any of the 2 previous Plant Paradox books yet, and would like to understand the program and hopefully give it a try, you are in the right place: this one piece will cover all. It’s a short, comprehensive, and actionable book. As Gundry says, the present book focuses on practical matters, specially for those who have a busy life and think the program is impractical. If you’ve read any one of the two previous books and are satisfied [or perhaps not] with what you've learned, please, save your money for the upcoming book—The Longevity Paradox. In fact, since I believe it’ll be groundbreaking, I’ve already pre-ordered it. However, if you’re like me, who, even after reading and researching details over again, enjoy learning new findings over time, then this book here, in fact, brings new perspectives on how to interpret previous concepts.SUMMARYIf I could summarize the book in a few words, I would say that it’s a revised edition of the classic program, where the content is laid out in a succinct and more practical way to be implemented. In other words, I sincerely believe Gundry’s main objective here was to make it easier, walking us through the program, step by step.[Chapter 1] It’s a primer on lectins. We learn what the heck lectins are; the food sources high in lectin; the effects of consuming foods high in lectins; how lectins influence our weight; as well as the 7 deadly disruptors that damage our gut and immune system. It’s important to highlight these 7 disruptors. They are: broad spectrum antibiotics; non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; stomach acid blockers; artificial sweeteners; endocrine disrupters commonly found in plastics, personal care products, and household cleaners; genetically modified foods and the herbicide roundup; and over exposition to blue light specially at night.[Chapter 2] Here we learn the details of the program itself: how it sets apart from other programs; how it can restore our health issues; how it can benefit those who wish to lose weight; and also about the 4 rules for success. I fell in love with them when I read the previous book, and will share here with you: [1] what you stop eating has far more impact on your health that what you start eating; [2] pay attention to the care and feeding of your gut buddies [the microbiome], and they will handle the care and feeding of you; [3] fruit might as well be candy; and [4] you are what the things you are eating ate.[Chapter 3] Now we delve into the 30-day challenge, where we learn the details of the 3-phase challenge—why, what, and when to eat during these phases—explained in an easy and comprehensive format. At the end there is a section on intermittent fasting.[Chapter 4] This chapter starts with a list of the foods we'd want to stock our kitchen, and a list of those we'd want to avoid because they're either high in lectin or detrimental to our overall health. Then Gundry explains the details of certain foods we’d want to eat frequently due to their benefits. Some examples are: almonds, avocados, cassava flour, cauliflower rice, coconut, eggs, nori seaweed, and extra virgin olive oil. He then moves gears towards the common pitfalls we habitually fall while choosing our food. Also, he shares common stores [such as Costco, Trader Joe's, Amazon, Thrive Market, Walmart] where we can purchase high-quality food without spending extra money when compared to what we’d spend following the Standard American Diet. Finally we find a description of Gundry's favorite kitchen equipments and how we can take advantage of them.[Chapter 5] Here is where we learn practical strategies to start the program, making it easy to overcome resistance such as having a family to take care, demanding work schedules, stress, and so forth. Gundry shares ways to simplify our grocery list, notes on how to be more realistic towards our goals, as well as a handful and well-explained strategies to prepare our meals by maximizing the quality and taste while saving time. He finishes up with many suggestions on how to choose, prepare, and store ready-to-go snacks and meals whenever we need.[Chapter 6] This is the one chapter that sets it apart from his previous books. Gundry addresses concerns we may face when dealing with specific needs such as tailoring the program for kids, parents, vegans, as well as for patients in extreme medical conditions. He doesn’t leave behind special recommendations for those on ketogenic diet. I don’t have kids yet, but I love the section about preparing kid-friendly meals. At the end of the chapter we find a short section about the importance of good sleep and hydration, as well as considerations on supplements.[Chapter 7] This is a no-brainer 30-day meal plan, with all meals outlined. More than that, there's a weekly prep plan for each one of the 4 weeks. Recipes are found in the following chapter.[Chapter 8] In terms of recipes, I’ve only had the chance to try two of them so far. The Salmon Avocado Bowl was delicious, which is made with avocado oil and cauliflower rice. The second recipe, which I tried yesterday, was the Sage and Mushroom Soup. Well, it’s aromatic and works perfectly as an entrĂ©e for cold evenings. Super easy to prepare.PERSONAL THOUGHTSAlthough I’m fortunate to be in good health, I've been feeling better than ever after deciding to embark on Gundry's low lectin program late in 2017 after reading the main Plant Paradox book twice. I say twice because it was during the second read that I absorbed the details, and committed to try it out for the initial 6-week program. Not only my skin looks brighter, but I also have more energy during the day and my digestive system has worked smoother since I took the leap and adopted this lifestyle. At first, the program Gundry proposes looks both daunting and difficult to comply. Even though I’d been following a combination of other similar protocols during the last couple of years from figures such as Joseph Mercola, Mark Hyman, Valter Longo, Chris Kresser, and Frank Lipman, having to make only small adjustments such as removing darling foods high in lectin such as cashew, eggplant, pumpkin, tomato, cucumber, and bell pepper was a difficult task. I had to be mindful. After all, Gundry added the lectin factor—a protein produced by certain plants used as a defensive strategy that can trigger a cascade of damaging effects on our health. It took me over 10 years to fully comprehend my ways to keep unnecessary inflammation away while getting more energy. That journey started most probably because I’ve been fascinated about the impact of good nutrition on physical performance and the joy of sharing meals we prepare with loved ones.I say all that because, choosing to give it a try, you will be jumping ahead decades of unbiased clinical and experimental researches. Although these experts I mentioned above are all brilliant, in my humble opinion Gundry’s program is the latest fine-tuning.That said, I would like to share with you a strategy to ease the transition towards any diet you intend to try. First and foremost, we could think not as a “diet” but as a “lifestyle” instead. Besides creating a healthy and positive habit, we could embrace it as part of our own personal values. It doesn’t matter exactly where we’re right now as long as we vow to move the needle towards a more meaningful lifestyle. For that, changes in our current diet can be done all at once or can be adjusted over time. Personally speaking, specially in terms of eating habits, I would consider adjusting over time—creating a strong and lasting connection with our choices—specially these days we’ve been emotionally and physically attached to food. For example, during the first week you could remove from all of your meals a group of detrimental foods such as sugar and artificial sweeteners while making sure to include at least two tablespoons of a high-quality extra virgin olive oil every day. Keep adjusting on a daily basis while you get familiar with the program chosen until... you take the leap and commit fully to the program. In this case, Gundry proposes an initial 30-day challenge. After all, what’s 30 days when we are supposed to live beyond 80 years given the right conditions?Last, some people may claim that this lifestyle is expensive. Looking from distance it does look pricey. But trust me, it can be easily done spending less money than the Standard American Diet. I appreciate how thoughtful Gundry was to write the section “Food Shopping Tips and Tricks” where he shares notes on how we can take full advantage of Costco, Trader Joe’s, Thrive Market, Amazon, Walmart, and local farmers market. Besides that, throughout the book Gundry mentions specific brands to look for.I’ve been on Phase 3 for over a year now. Finishing the book, I decided to come back to Phase 1 and follow the 30-day challenge, starting this coming Monday. It’ll be a positive reset.Well, it turned out to be a long review. I hope it helps you in some way.Take good care,Haical
