One of my favorite books in this genre Unfortunately, I've had to grapple with anxiety and depression most of my life. But you work with the hand you were dealt, am I right? On top of meds and therapy, I've amassed quite a collection of self-help books, some better than others. I try to be proactive in dealing with my business; I feel that's super important in helping deal with mental and emotional problems. For anxiety, I've found that books on mindfulness meditation to be quite helpful. For depression, stuff that emphasizes CBT is effective. That's why I like this book. It's written well, although some bits seem a bit dated (an example in the book of something that might irritate you is when you use your last dime at a payphone and the call drops and you don't get your money back. Little things like that pop up here and there in the book, but don't detract from the important things).I use some of the exercises in this book with a therapist which is helpful. There are exercises where the author asks you to write out things instead of mentally reviewing things. I agree with that recommendation. It helps solidify concepts and organize your thoughts. The book is written well, and in a conversational way. I found there were many times the author explained something that made me say 'Yeah, that's me! If I'm being honest, that's how I think and what it really means!'Hopefully you'll like it. Do the exercises, be honest in the exercises, and if you see a therapist try working through this stuff with them. My therapist knew who this author was right away and was familiar with his work. It's one of the few books like this that I own that I go back and review periodically.Just Buy it, It works. It will make you feel better. Once you start reading this book, you will start to feel better. If you suffer with depression, this book is better than any prescription I have tried. It deals with the here and now, and teaches you how to understand your own negative contribution to your depression, and it gives you several tools with which you can assess where you are at, how you talk to yourself, how you interpret others, and how to regain control over that narrative.Best book that I have ever read. It made a difference just reading, but much more so by using the knowledge and tools that Dr. Burns provides in the book. I bought copies for friends and family who have also had learned how to feel better and even feel good.I would give it 6 stars if I couldOn meds for depression or anxiety, read this book and change your life. I was fortunate to learn that the author was trained at my alma-mater, and it gave me the initial faith to read this book and do the work inside. This is university tested and developed Cognitive Behavior Therapy made available to anyone, it's success has been documented in over 40,000 patients in double-blind peer-reviewed studies. It changed my life. For 15 years I WAS anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications, after reading this book, and doing the Cognitive Behavior Therapy exercises, I was able to wean myself off meds completely.

Think and Grow Rich Pdf

ISBN: 1585424331
Title: Think and Grow Rich Pdf The Landmark Bestseller Now Revised and Updated for the 21st Century (Think and Grow Rich Series)
Author: Napoleon Hill
Published Date: 1937
Page: 302

"During the past twenty-five years I have been blessed with more good fortune than any individual deserves but I shudder to think where I'd be today, or what I'd be doing if I had not been exposed to Napoleon Hill's philosophy. It changed my life."--Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World Napoleon Hill was born in 1883 in Virginia and died in 1970 after a long and successful career as a lecturer, an author, and as a consultant to business leaders. Think and Grow Rich is the all-time bestseller in its field, having sold 15 million copies worldwide, and sets the standard for today’s motivational thinking.

Please note that this item is a roughcut (deckle edge) edition

Think and Grow Rich
has been called the "Granddaddy of All Motivational Literature." It was the first book to boldly ask, "What makes a winner?" The man who asked and listened for the answer, Napoleon Hill, is now counted in the top ranks of the world's winners himself.

The most famous of all teachers of success spent "a fortune and the better part of a lifetime of effort" to produce the "Law of Success" philosophy that forms the basis of his books and that is so powerfully summarized in this one.

In the original Think and Grow Rich, published in 1937, Hill draws on stories of Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and other millionaires of his generation to illustrate his principles. In the updated version, Arthur R. Pell, Ph.D., a nationally known author, lecturer, and consultant in human resources management and an expert in applying Hill's thought, deftly interweaves anecdotes of how contemporary millionaires and billionaires, such as Bill Gates, Mary Kay Ash, Dave Thomas, and Sir John Templeton, achieved their wealth. Outmoded or arcane terminology and examples are faithfully refreshed to preclude any stumbling blocks to a new generation of readers.

This book is a real game changer! I chose to read this book because I have met several people who have read it and they say, it's a game changer . This book is filled with confirmation , spiritual truth , and wisdom beyond your imagination. Reading this book could change your life if you adhere to the philosophies of many great men; including Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and the great Dale Carnegie. These brilliant business minds all used the philosophies put together in one book written by Napoleon Hill...This book is brilliant!Skip this book If you're looking for an edge in your pursuit of success, skip this book. 20 years ago I bought this book and it's ideas hook, line and sinker; however, after spending two decades on application it's apparent that the principles in this book are mostly nonsense. I am only going to take the time to highlight two pieces of misinformation in this book: visualization, and "the secret."This book touts visualizing your goals as a method to speed up/ensure attainment. Research shows that the opposite is true. Visualizing your goals and imagining how it would feel to have achieved them has been show to consistently reduce drive and motivation. This book is full of misinformation like this, that if diligently applied will be counterproductive. There is "the secret" alluded to in this book, and the subject of a nonsense DVD and book by the same title. The most important warning that I can give someone younger, after 20 years of time wasted looking for secrets is this: the only free cheese is in a mouse trap. Secrets to success do NOT exist. Time spent looking for "secrets" or applying them is time that could be invested in getting better at the fundamentals of whatever arena you are in.One of the most basic examples would be personal finance: the only people getting rich off the "secrets of wealth" are the people selling those "secrets." Ultimately there are just a handful of things that matter in personal finance - get out of debt, live on a budget, invest in assets with a decent balance of risk & return, have a rainy day fund (and funds for other things you know are coming - Christmas gifts, college, etc.).This book is selling a fantasy that appeals to deep biases that all humans have. Do yourself a favor, skip this book.1 star for the packaging I received this book and was stunned when I pulled it out and found that it was a 100 page large paperback 8x10 book. The formatting and words inside the book are horribly formatted and set up. Whoever put this together must be an amateur, because I can't imagine that anyone would have approved something like this. Then I noticed the print date was the day I ordered it, which means this is a print-on-demand, which is usually a self-published set up. There's nothing wrong with that, but that means the person who took the text off the real Think and Grow Rich book didn't even transfer it correctly. I then looked at the Publisher and it says, "Createspace", which is a self-published imprint. That means someone took the text and bound it horribly into a book so that they can collect the royalties on someone else's famous book. I'm surprised Amazon has allowed this to happen and that no one has flagged this or pointed that out. This is really bad. I might've let this slide had they at least set this book up properly. It's clear an amateur did this. You'll have to make sure you're buying the right version, because Amazon has ridiculously linked this bootleg version with the real one. That means all the reviews on this page are mix and match. Some of them are talking about a different version. Check the publisher on the page and make sure it doesn't say, "Createspace". That's the illegal version.

The Secrets We Kept Download

ISBN: B07V9Z5DPS
Title: The Secrets We Kept Pdf A Novel

"This month for Reese's Book Club, we are listening to The Secrets We Kept by Lara Prescott! Set during the Cold War, it tells the story of secretaries turned spies who are tasked with smuggling Doctor Zhivago out of the USSR and into the hands of Russian citizens. You'll get to know Sally and Irina, two spies who risk it all for love and adventure." (Reese Witherspoon)

A thrilling tale of secretaries turned spies, of love and duty, and of sacrifice - inspired by the true story of the CIA plot to infiltrate the hearts and minds of Soviet Russia, not with propaganda, but with the greatest love story of the 20th century: Doctor Zhivago.

At the height of the Cold War, two secretaries are pulled out of the typing pool at the CIA and given the assignment of a lifetime. Their mission: to smuggle Doctor Zhivago out of the USSR, where no one dares publish it, and help Pasternak's magnum opus make its way into print around the world. Glamorous and sophisticated Sally Forrester is a seasoned spy who has honed her gift for deceit all over the world - using her magnetism and charm to pry secrets out of powerful men. Irina is a complete novice, and under Sally's tutelage quickly learns how to blend in, make drops, and invisibly ferry classified documents.

The Secrets We Kept combines a legendary literary love story - the decades-long affair between Pasternak and his mistress and muse, Olga Ivinskaya, who was sent to the Gulag and inspired Zhivago's heroine, Lara - with a narrative about two women empowered to lead lives of extraordinary intrigue and risk. From Pasternak's country estate outside Moscow to the brutalities of the Gulag, from Washington, DC to Paris and Milan, The Secrets We Kept captures a watershed moment in the history of literature - told with soaring emotional intensity and captivating historical detail. And at the center of this unforgettable debut is the powerful belief that a piece of art can change the world.

This audiobook features performances by Mozhan Marno as Olga, Carlotta Brentan as Irina, Cynthia Farrell as Sally, Saskia Maarleveld as The Typists, Jonathan Davis as Boris, David Pittu as Sergio, and James Fouhey as Teddy.

War of the words I predict that Lara Prescott’s debut novel will be a smash hit. From the first sentence, at “The Agency” in D.C. in the 1950s, with the clack of the typewriter keys, the typing pool women engage us. The Agency goals are to spin subversive words into gold to spread democratic ideals. That is where the role of Dr. Zhivago comes in, a book banned in the Eastern Bloc for its critiques of the State. Intellectuals, scholars, artists and writers and were used as propaganda tools to disseminate the ideology of the West to places behind the Iron Curtain in the East.Prescott demonstrates the role of women to advance this objective, giving us an absorbing, scintillating, and exceptionally well-paced page-turner that will have you canceling dates and burning dinner to keep reading.During the ten or so years that Pasternak was writing his masterpiece, word had come to the attention of the cultural heads of State that the content may contradict their dogma. Boris’ lover, Olga, was Pasternak’s muse for the character of Lara, Dr. Zhivago’s love interest. She had already gone to the gulag once, so that the State could tap her for information on Pasternak’s “heretical” novel-in-progress.The narrative alternates between East and West--Olga and Boris in the East, and the typing pool women in the West. Among the women in D.C., the focus is on Irina and Sally, two very different women who become more than just typists. You can use Swallow or Carrier to describe them—women who are talented at getting info from loose-lipped men that possess important information (Swallow), or who are trained and clever at dropping envelopes of top secret information to their appointed recipients.Whether you are familiar (or uninformed) with Dr. Zhivago, the Cold War, or the 1950s, it won’t matter. Prescott shines in installing the reader instantly and sustaining our interest. The words flow with the urgent but descriptive narrative, and the momentum is both fierce and sinuous. The women often work as “doubles” to obtain information. “A double is a bit of a misnomer; one person doesn’t become two. Rather, one loses a part of herself in order to exist in two worlds, never fully existing in either.”Well, I can tell you, the only world I existed in for the time I was reading this novel was Prescott’s narrative creation. There isn’t one false word or boring passage. I was gripped from the opening page to the hypnotic end. And, still, I can’t get these women out of my head.Based on an exciting true story and well-written, but didn't grab me At the height of the Cold War, the CIA publishes Boris Pasternak's Dr. Zhivago in Russian and smuggles the copies behind the Iron Curtain to embarrass the Soviet leadership. It's a great story filled with colorful characters, intrigue, suspense and literary values. But it's been told before, in Peter Finn and Petra Couvée's "The Zhivago Affair," among other places, and better. There are memoirs and accounts from many of the participants. This fictionalization is a less compelling story than the truth. The author's main interest does not seem to be the plot. Rather she attempts to recreate an historical era with emphasis on sexism. The important characters are all women, mostly fictional, more concerned with love, sex (straight and lesbian), clothes and personal relations than either literature or politics. My issue here is the author does not understand the era. She transplants 21st ideas of sexism into the 1950s. Women of that era did not graduate college only to be shocked at being offered jobs as typists, while less-intelligent college graduate men were put on executive paths. The women and everyone else knew long before college that women's choices were marriage-and-family, low-paid work or fighting hard against steep odds for professional careers. Moreover the women involved did not differ from their male bosses only by sex, the author is comparing middle-class and poor women from average colleges to wealthy Ivy-League males with strong connections. The class differences mattered as well as sex.Contemporary works like Patricia Highsmith's "The Price of Salt," which has some similarities to this novel, paint a far different and more accurate picture of the lives of women and lesbians in the 1950s (that book also ranks much higher on literary grounds). You can also learn from the Zhivago affair books written by participants. Finally the book fails as a thriller. The only real tension concerns Soviet government abuse of Pasternak's mistress, and it is not sustained. The gulag scenes are wrenching, but have been done much better elsewhere. The plotting is not taut, and the action scenes are clumsy. The best way to view this book is as a reasonably well-written attempt to use historical events to illustrate 21st century ideas about women, sex and power. If it had been complete fiction, or if it recounted obscure events, I might have given it three stars for a decent story and good writing. But since it relies mainly on the interest of the historical story, and it doesn't do that story justice, and it fails to evoke the reality of the era, I decided on two stars.
