For courses in Visual Basic Programming
In Starting Out with Visual Basic, Tony Gaddis and Kip Irvine take a step-by-step approach, helping students understand the logic behind developing quality programs while introducing the Visual Basic language. Revised and fully updated throughout for Visual Basic 2015, the Seventh Edition is written in clear, easy-to-understand language, covering all the necessary introductory programming topics. Concise, practical, and real-world example programs not only help students learn to use the various controls, constructs, and features of Visual Basic, but also why and when to use them.
The text is designed for students who have no prior programming background, but experienced students will also benefit from its depth of detail and the chapters covering databases, Web applications, and other advanced topics. Each chapter covers a major set of programming topics, introduces controls and GUI elements, and builds knowledge as the student progresses through the book.
Also Available with MyProgrammingLab.
MyProgrammingLab is an online learning system designed to engage students and improve results. MyProgrammingLab consists of a set of programming exercises correlated to the programming concepts in this book and improves the programming competence of beginning students who often struggle with the basic concepts of programming languages. For students, the system automatically detects errors in the logic and syntax of their code submissions and offers targeted hints that enable students to figure out what went wrong. For instructors, a comprehensive gradebook tracks correct and incorrect answers and stores the code inputted by students for review.

Expensive Good info too expensiveExcellent book, looks like new! Although it is said that it was used, it look more like new! Even the code was not used (which I did not even used it too, because the programs for the tutorials can be downloaded on Pearson website). Besides, the the book is excellent for beginners, it gave you a basic inside in Visual Basic and with the tutorials and programming challenges it helps you practice and reinforce (or strengthened) what you have learned in each chapter.1) Will it be easy enough to learn the lessons in the book on my own if not taking a class? 2) I just rented the book, and I have some questions. (I can only ask one question on the question section.)It seems to be geared for ONLY students who are taking VBA classes. Is that so? I'm not a student. To register on some of the sites listed in the book, you need access codes. And for the access codes, you need information like class numbers and so forth.I'm aware the access to sites like MyProgrammingLab cost extra ($43.00). That is okay if I can do the lessons without taking a class. Is this feature available for non-students?Finally, the book recommends using Visual Studio Community 2015. Downloading that from VisualStudio.com was a confusing process. I'm still not certain if I did it correctly. The steps needs to be more clearly defined. Also, should we be downloading Visual Studio Community 2017, given that is a newer version? The rental itself looks brand new. However, I can't say if the material is worthwhile since I am a beginner. The description about the book could be much better.
